I’m ecstatic, thrilled, and honored to announce that I have two exhibitions this November: A group exhibit at the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood, and a solo exhibit at PG Plaza Community Center just two miles away in Hyattsville. In addition, I learned just days ago that I have been awarded the Nov-Feb Artist-In-Residency at Gateway Arts Center. I am so thankful. Each will be a great opportunity for inspiration and growth. Please grow with me and come on out to one of the events below!
Upcoming Exhibitions – Please come out to one 🙂
Opening November 12th, Malika Bryant, Justin Fair, and Jeanne Sullivan exhibit their latest work in Created In Our Own Way, a group exhibition in which each artist explores the intrigue their artwork brings to their passions and images of self. Join the artists as they delve into why they create art, question how their work reflects themselves, and invite you to ask the same questions of yourself. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 12th from 5:30pm-8:00pm.
Located at the Gateway Arts Center on the second floor is the 39th Street Gallery Corridor Exhibition Space. Just head up the sidewalk and follow the red banister. The Exhibition will run until December 17th; Gateway Arts Center, 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood MD, 20722. For more information, call Justin Fair at telephone.
The opening reception will take place alongside the 39th Street Gallery’s opening reception of Shape Shifters.
2) Fall Open Studios at Gateway Arts Center
–> Artist-In-Residence Open Studio: Sun, Nov. 13, 12-4pm
Next Sunday, November 13th from 12-4pm, please join me and other artists across the Gateway Arts District for open studios! I will be exhibiting my latest artwork and greeting my new studiomates as I embark on Artist-in-Residency at the Gateway Arts Center. Aside from my bringing punch and cookies, this open studio day will be a big ‘hello’ for me. I hope this Artist-in-Residency (AIR) will allow me the ability to spread my wings and really take off in both my own artwork and engage in community events, such as organizing functions like workshops, lectures, art critiques, and group art sessions. In collaboration with my work at Soulstrong Arts Blog, I hope to collaborate with fellow art-lovers through get-togethers, online media, and other forms of gab in order to spread the good word! I look forward to creating and nurturing artwork with this amazing opportunity. Located at the Gateway Arts Center on the second floor.
3) Crucial Steps: Recent Work at Prince George’s Plaza CC
Opening November 17th, visual and performing artist Justin Fair reveals his latest work in Crucial Steps: Recent Work by Justin Fair at Prince George’s Plaza Community Center, thanks to the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance. Artwork on display will feature paintings, prints, and performance videos. Justin will host a Art & Hot Cocoa Artist Talk during the exhibition run (Date TBA, hopefully Wed, Nov 23, 7:30-8:30pm). Exhibition runs until December 17th; Prince George’s Plaza Community Center, 6600 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782. For more information, call Justin Fair by telephone.
My friend and co-worker, Erica Riggio, will be having a Grand Opening for her design firm at the historic Lustine Center in Hyattsville, MD. For those of you who came out to support the second exhibit I curated, Hidden Images, this is the same spot! Erica helped me co-curate that exhibit with Abby Hunt, it was a great way to welcome in the new studio/gallery space when we moved into artdc Gallery. I have interned with Erica since December 2009! I am proud and happy for Erica, and wish her the best. Please read below:
Interior Design is Art illustrates the design process via conceptual development, schematic and process sketches, and finished and under construction projects. On exhibit will be recent projects including a new restaurant design slated to open in December, a new boutique located in Old Town, and various other commercial and residential spaces. In addition, a marketplace will be created showcasing refinished and vintage furniture for sale at great prices. Emphasis on “design for all†is encouraged by this unique marketplace offering affordable pieces and a new concept, Micro Design, which will be introduced. Original interior installations created by Riggio and Justice and Justice’s original abstract art will be on exhibit as well. …Wine and hor d’oeuvres will be available and networking is encouraged at this art event and grand opening celebration. One of our goals is to bring “the art world†in direct contact with other business entities in the hope that we can strengthen the relationship and commitment between local artists and local businesses.
